Jeff Davis street

While there is a national debate on monuments and statues, it’s worth talking about more than just the Confederates. Sitka has a street named for Jeff Davis (the Union one, not the Confederate President)

Davis was the military leader of Alaska who ordered the expedition that burned the village of Kake to the ground. After leaving Alaska, he was reassigned to California, where he lead government forces against the Modoc in the Californian Indian wars. (Woolsey)

We have a street named for him.
